Fast Food Problems

In the article Don't Blame the Eater, editor David Zincenko explains to the audience in New York Times, that it's not always the consumers fault, that they eat at Mcdonlads , KFC or Tacobell. It is also given that the rate of diabetes has doubled from obesity, since 1994. The other problem that he points out is that with fast food places, they do not label their food for calories, or give warning signs to prevent people from eating from these places especially to young kids and teenagers. In the future the government will make laws that will have fast food joints advertise the risk health, of eating at their companies.This will effect the American people because of rising health care costs, that the taxpayers will have to pay from obesity because of these companies. Zincenko thinks it plain and simple just provide labels on these products.

I agree with Zincenko with obesity in this country it's gotten out of control. These companies should be putting calorie labels on their products especially for children and young teenagers who are more prone to eat at these places. Not all fast food chains are like that for an example Subway doe's but out calorie labels, and they advertise on TV how healthy their food is but that's one a few. The other part I disagree with David is, parents should be responsible for their children's health. You can't blame it all on the fast food industry. They have the moral obligation to keep their children healthy. Why I picked this topic is because obesity has become a big problem in this country, and we need to take care of this problem.     

PTSD The movie on General Patton

In all the wars that the United States has been involved in there has always PTSD with combat soldiers. PTSD means, post traumatic stress syndrome. In every generation it was named different in the Civil War it was broken soldiers heart, and in World War II it was called combat fatigue. Not till after the first Gulf War it was diagnosed as PTSD. In the move Patton they show a general, with guts and would kill at all cost. In a scene in the movie which is a true story he actually slaps two combat soldiers, because one has a fever and malaria. The other soldier is at a breaking point, from all this slaughter in the fields, Patton actually grabs his pistol from his holster until a doctor restrains him calling him a coward and other bad words. This movie depicts, that these soldiers are cowards and Patton is the hero, and that he is the macho guy.

The problem with this movie, is at this point one the movie was made in 1973 PTSD was not acknowledged yet. The people that made the movie never have been to combat, so they would not how it is to fight in the front lines. The other part is that general Patton was not even fighting in the front lines, as a officer usually doesn't fight in the field, it's the enlisted and average men and women that do, the backbone of the military. This movie does not show the facts, what happens to a soldier after he or she has fought combat. Regardless it does not make a person a coward because they PTSD it makes them human, and even people that where part of Patton's division didn't like him, and what he did to those young men. Next time have combat veterans make movies not hollywood's hotshot directors.

I want to become a better writer.

I'm taking 102 because it required for me to if I want to graduate. To tell the you the truth I am kind of glad to take this course. I always struggled with writing, it's always been my weakness when it comes to the education process of getting my degree. It usually takes me longer to finish a paper than most people who are gifted in writing, that's one of the reasons I never liked writing but you have to try and not give up on your weakness.

I'm a history major, and it is very important to know how to write good if you want to succeed in the history business. Usually I will get B's in my history classes, than A's in not that I don't have the knowledge, it because my papers are weak. It frustrates me because I know more about in depth history topics than must people in my classroom. Now that I'm in upper level history classes, there are going to be a couple of research papers that's going to have be done if I want to graduate from Northeastern.

So I'm looking forward to taking this class, to help my skills to get better in writing. This will be the class that will do that I think. Hopefully Professor Spencer can help on this, and I already what I want to do my research paper on, I just need your help on more of the technical stuff, like making a outlines and so forth. Well this my first Blog so it's kind cool to write, it reminds of my journal I wrote when I was in Afghanistan!
